Using dd to do disk checking

First writing:

# sync; date; dd if=/dev/zero of=1000m bs=1024k count=1000; date; sync; date

...this writes to the current directory so be in the partition you wish to write to.

 # sync; date; dd if=/dev/zero of=1000m bs=1024k count=1000; date; sync; date
